In 1997, after having developed multiple successful, customer-centered construction companies in Texas, Ralf Kuehn endeavored to establish Allied as a reputable framing contractor in Southeast Michigan. It didn’t take long. In a matter of a couple years, we sprouted from being an insignificant, one-crew operation to a 12-crew machine. Most impressive about the growth we experienced in that short span was our ability to maintain high levels of quality and service. Since then, Allied has remained a strong force in the construction market, offering unmatched services to builders and homeowners. Our durability and longevity as a company is something each one of our clients can take comfort in, knowing that we’ll be around to stand behind our work.

How does Allied’s framing expertise benefit homeowners?

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

With over 20 years of in-the-field, on-the-job experience, we have an intricate understanding of home structures, which is truly invaluable when it comes to your exterior remodeling projects. Here are a few illustrations of how we can benefit you in very practical ways:

  • Would you like to combine two small windows into one larger window in order to achieve more sunlight or for increased cosmetics? If so, you may need to resize your window headers and you will certainly have to remove some of the existing wall, which will require deconstructing and reconstructing the frame. You will certainly have some demo work involved in this. We are your one stop shop for that, providing the drywaller, painter, framer, and finish carpenter.
  • Have you noticed your exterior walls are bowing or warping? We have an exorbitant amount of experience in straightening wall frames. Sometimes the problem lies in the OSB itself. Maybe it wasn’t properly fastened to the 2x studs, or maybe it has been water damaged and is now permanently warped. Maybe one of the original studs was badly bowed. Whatever the case is, we can help alleviate these issues.
  • Would you like to spruce up your porch by updating your columns and ceilings? Once again, these are items that we are extremely proficient in. James Hardie offers a host of attractive soffit options (ceiling options), and they stand behind their work. You could even accentuate your ceiling with some artistic Hardie battens. We’re here to implement your vision by providing professional insights.

These are just a few out of the many ways our knowledge of framing will benefit you as our customer.

What is rough carpentry or framing?

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

A home has its own skeletal system, referred to as the frame. The frame is comprised of many different structural entities, upon which, the rest of the home is supported:

  • Headers (common application: support window and door openings)
  • Studs (the bones, so to speak, of your interior and exterior walls- usually 2x4s or 2x6s)
  • Steel I-beams (common application: supports significant weight loads in basement)
  • Steel stanchions (commonly used to support I-beams in basements)
  • Trusses (pre-engineered roof systems)
  • Stringers (stair frame usually cut out of 2×12)

That just scratches the surface to all the various parts and terms that define the rough carpentry trade. Once the frame is completed, the home is then filled out with plumbing, electrical work, insulation, etc.
